  Golf Tips

Chipping

A chip shot is executed from close to the green and is defined as having minimum air time and maximum ground time. You want the ball to roll further then it flies. The stroke is very similar to a putting stroke.

Set-Up

  • Use a 6 – 7 – 8 – 9 iron
  • Feet close together
  • Ball in the middle of your stance
  • Weight more on your left side
  • Hands in front of the ball
  • Stiffen your wrist to punch the shot with tempo
  • Pick a spot on the green or fringe where you want the ball to land, so it will roll to the target
  • The swing is very similar to a putting stroke executed  with the upper arms and shoulders
  • Use no body movement
  • The club must travel the same distance backward and forward, accelerating through the ball

Short Game Tips

Putting

Over 70 percent of the game is played from within 100 yards of the pin. By developing our putting, chipping and pitching skills we become a fearless competitor. Putting in a par round accounts for 50 percent of our score (two putts per hole).

All good putters have two main factors in common; they control the speed and directions of every putt.

Direction or putting-line is determined by where the clubface is pointing at impact and the direction the putter is traveling. At set up the clubface is pointing at a 90 degree angle to the target line. Read the green for the putting ling, not necessarily the cup. Distance control is determined by the backward and forward swing of the club. The swing is all arms and shoulders; No Wrist Movement “Nun-Nun-Nun”.  Make the stroke like a pendulum, back and forth with acceleration through the ball. The longer the back stroke and the follow through the further the ball will travel.
