Dear Brothers in Holy Orders,

I urge you to invite the people of this Archdiocese to offer prayers and fasting during the Lenten Season to foster true respect for religious liberty and freedom of conscience in our country.

It has also been suggested that our churches and institutions ring bells at noon on Ash Wednesday and recite the common prayer (see attached).  On Sundays, in particular, I also ask you to include a prayer for religious liberty in the intercessions (see attached).

Finally, also attached is a bulletin insert prepared by the USCCB which clarifies why the HHS mandate and the so-called “accommodation” are unacceptable.

I know that all of this comes late, but it is such a critical issue and the situation is moving quickly. I appreciate your understanding and collaboration.

                                                            Sincerely yours in Christ,

                                                            Most Reverend Dennis M. Schnurr
                                                Archbishop of
Cincinnati
