Even as we get older we can remember
the excitement of a “Snow Day.” The kids today have devised a few
techniques that are supposed to make them happen. So, the night
before, they wear their pajamas inside-out, or put pennies in the
freezer, or flush ice cubes down the toilet. Then they fall asleep
hoping that in the morning they will hear Oak Hills Schools are
closed (St. Al’s and other area schools follow their lead). The kids
don’t care that the State of Ohio allows only five “calamity” days
and that (as of this writing) we have already used four of them. If
we go beyond five such days we will have to begin adding school days
to compensate as happened last school year. I’m sure the children
don’t want to hear that Governor Strickland intends to cut the
number to three calamity days next year. I say, “Let the children
have their dream.” We had them in our day. - Jim Leisring, Principal |

In a spirit of good
stewardship, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati has instituted a financial
misconduct hotline to allow employees, volunteers, vendors and other
interested parties to report what they believe to be financial misconduct at
any level - parish, deanery or archdiocese. As an additional safeguard, the
hotline is administered by an independent third-party company, Ethics Point.
You may report a concern on this hotline either by calling one of Ethics
Point’s trained specialists at 1-866-294-5256 or by visiting the website
www.ethicspoint.com. There is also a link on the archdiocesan website,
www.CatholicCincinnati.org, under the label "To Report Financial
Misconduct."

Parish Calendar
The five-week series will focus on the challenge Christ gave to His
people in the verses of Matthew 25: 35-36, “I was hungry and you fed
me, thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you
received me in your homes, naked and you clothed me; I was sick and
you took care of me, in prison and you visited me.”
Brother John Martin, SJ, manager for Public Affairs at Mary Magdalen
House, will be with us at our first evening session on March 4 to
speak of his work with the poor and homeless in our inner city.
Brother John Martin was one of the founding members of Mary Magdalen
House, which was established in March of 1988 with the belief for
those who come to its door that dignity is the beginning of hope.
To support the ministry of Mary Magdalen House, those attending the
evening’s session may wish to bring a donation of new or gently used
winter clothing. Especially needed at this time by Mary Magdalen
House are warm winter hats and gloves, and winter coats for adult
women and men, in adult sizes, large, extra large, and XX large.
The evening sessions begin at 7:30 pm in the Tekulve Room following the Way of the Cross at 7:00 pm. featuring
presentations from local ministries:
March 11, Prison Ministry;
March 18, Hospice of Cincinnati;
March 25, Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity.
For more information, contact Marilyn Schutte, 574-9859, or Jackie
Voelkerding, 574-9225. |
Who baptized you? Your children? Who granted you absolution in a way
that was a turning point in your faith journey? Who officiated at
your wedding?
Pope Benedict has declared this to be the “Year for Priests.” During
Thanksgiving weekend reflect on the gift of the priesthood to your
life. Then during Advent, send of note of gratitude to those priests
who are Christ present to us.
Thank you to Sarah Frohmuller from the Archdiocesan Office of Priest
Personnel for supplying the
addresses
for these priests who have served St. Aloysius Parish. |
Parish Registration is required at St. Al's for the rendering of special services such as weddings and funerals. Because our parishioners support the on-going ministry of this parish through donations of time and money, the fees for parishioners in need of special services cover only immediate costs and are quite low. A substantial surcharge is applied to non-parishioners....If you consider St. Al's to be your "spiritual home," be sure that you have
"an earthly address" registered at the parish office.

God calls
each person to grow in faith, and He does so in unique and
different ways. Some people are drawn by an insatiable curiosity
to learn about the things of God. Other people are attracted by
the deep faith of family or friends. Still others sense a void
in their lives and are searching for meaning and fulfillment
that only God can bring. RCIA is a process of seeking God and
growing in faith on the way to discerning the call to join the
Catholic faith community. If you know someone interested in
exploring the Catholic faith, please contact rectory,

Do you have a
child going to public school? Our Parish School of Religion
(PSR) is here to help you in the faith formation of your child.
Our Catholic faith is rich in teachings and Tradition. Our
hope is to help you bring this teaching to your children along
with the very formative value of Sunday mass. Children
receiving First Penance, First Eucharist or Confirmation must
attend classes in the year prior to making these sacraments.
Confirmation is every other year. There will not be a
Confirmation class this year. However, there are classes
through the eighth grade. Learning is a life-long endeavor
for all. Call the rectory at 574-4840 for additional information. |
RCIA Inquiry Session will meet the first and third Thursdays of every month from 7:30-9:00PM in the undercroft.
The period of Inquiry is a time for:
• Asking questions about the Catholic faith
• Building community within the group
• Developing a trusting atmosphere
More importantly, it is a time for:
• Examining God’s presence in our lives, past and present
• Learning about prayer
• Fostering conversion
• Developing or improving our relationship with God
• Getting to know his church
