PTO General Assembly Meeting

Sept. 11^th , 2008

Meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm by Toni Brennan.

Father Mike led the assembly in an opening prayer and moment of silence for the 9/11 victims.

Kaycee Mooney read the PTO Mission Statement and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Toni Brennan introduced the PTO board members.

Guest Speaker – Father Mike

Father Mike spoke about the importance of having not only strong leadership for all of our organizations but leadership that is strong in the Catholic Faith.

May Minutes

A motion was made to approve the minutes from the May 14^th, General Assembly meeting – 1^st Jenny Rhein, 2^nd  Karen M; all were in favor and the minutes were approved as written.

REPORTS

Corresponding Secretary Report – Debbie King

• Birthday Cards were sent to Jackie Rodenburg, Kathy Sturwold, Bridgett Bessinger, Connie Ober

• Sympathy cards were sent to Patty Szurlinski and Tim Goedde
• The PTO received thank-you notes from the Angie Depew, Helen Johnson, Patty Szurlinski and Kim Goedde.

Treasurer – Diana Nusekabel

§         Budget was cut by $8,000 this year.

Motion to approve Treasurer’s Report – 1^st Sandy Wohlfrom, 2^nd Kim Goedde; motion carried to approve Treasurer’s Report.

Ways & Means Report – Natalee Adkins & Audra Day

• Gator Raffle changes – prices have dropped.  Asking each family to sell 1 sheet.  Hoping to replace some of the other fund raisers with this one.  This year there will be (2) $200 scholarships given away to the sellers.
• Sally Foster is going on now.  This is our biggest fund raiser. Orders are due 9/19.  Volunteers are needed to unload the truck and separate orders on 10/23 in the morning, 9:00AM and again after school to pass out orders. 
• Box tops, Tyson chicken labels, Campbell’s Labels, GFS and Kroger cards are all easy ways that you can support our school.

Old Business

• PTO Board Positions: for the 2008-09 year still need a co-vice president.

New Business

• PTO By-Laws Changes: 
  • 50% of the profit from the Kroger Card program & 10% of the profit from the Gator Raffle will be tithed back to the Church after the final amount is tallied at the end of the fiscal year (June). This dollar amount is not subject to vote and will be tithed back per the percentages noted above regardless of the amount.
  • For the Gordon Food Service (GFS) program, which is shared with the cafeteria, at least $100.00 is to be tithed to the cafeteria.  After the first $100.00 is earned, we will tithe that money immediately to the cafeteria.
  • All PTO recommendations must be available to all members at least one month prior to the General Assembly meeting at which they will be voted upon. (remove –in print before being voted on at a General Assembly meeting.) These recommendations/revisions will be available for review on the school’s web page and, at the request of a member, a hard copy will be sent home through school. PTO members will be made aware of the upcoming vote and the availability of the proposal(s) via a note from school. A vote will then take place at the next General Assembly meeting.

• A motion was made by Toni Brennan to accept the changes as written,  1^st Missy Stenger, 2^nd Jenni Westendorf.  All were in favor and the ByLaws were approved as written.

Athletics: - Todd Westendorf.

• Athletic Meetings are 1^st Thursday of each month in the Annex , all are welcome.
• Boys Basket ball signups are going on now. 
• Commissioners for Basketball are needed this year, see Todd if interested.

Winners:

The attendance banner was won by Mrs. Hummel’s class which receives an out-of-uniform day on Monday

Attendance Prize (formerly the $25 Tuition credit) was won by Jill Duffy and Terry Biehl;

Split the Pot was won by Amy Weightman for $194.50.

§         Mr. Leisring introduced the staff.

·         Eighth Grade:     Mr. Rapien

§         Last year was challenging with the loss of staff and the budget struggles but things are looking very promising this year.  We had over 60 families who were able to pay their tuition in full and take advantage of the 5% discount.

§         We were able to acquire new technology such as Smart boards and tablets for the teachers.

§         There are 2 challenges for this year.

 1) In the Acre Tests taken in grades 5 and 8, one thing has stood out in the past results.  Less than 60% of children said that their families pray together at home.  Mr. Leisring challenged all to change this and make time to pray together as a family at home. 

2) Anyone who still owes forms, please get them turned into the office.

§         Teachers were dismissed to go to their classes.

§         Two sessions were held and would begin and end with announcements.

§         All were invited to return to the Gym for refreshments following the classroom sessions.

Closing remarks were given by Toni Brennan.  Next General Assembly meeting will be on January 14^th, 2009 I the Cafeteria.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Missy Stenger and seconded by Diane Lengerich; motion approved and meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
